In response to overwhelming requests, the AAPA and Scott & White Hospital announces the second annual hospital/critical care medicine symposium and workshop January 11-15, 2010 in Temple, Texas. This 5-day course is based on the core competency standards set by the Society of Hospital Medicine. Each day the course will highlight a different area of medicine including cardiology, pulmonary and renal, endocrine and GI, and neurology and infectious disease. Hands-on experiences in one of the country’s top simulation centers include PICC placement, paracentesis, central line placement, thoracentesis, LPs, ventilator management, and case simulations.
Registration fee of $825 for physician assistants and $1025 for other healthcare providers includes all course materials and syllabus, breakfasts, lunches, welcoming reception, two dinners, and transportation from hotel to conference site. Click here to view the agenda.
The Fundamentals of Hospital Medicine registration is currently full. If you would like to add your name to the wait list, please complete the registration application and submit it without payment information. Be sure that there is an accurate and available e-mail and/or phone number where you can be contacted.
Beginning December 3, 2009- the waitlist will be opened. If a spot becomes available, you will be contacted on a first come-first served basis. Payment for the course must be available at the time you are contacted. There will be no exceptions.
This course is approved by the AAPA for 37 hours Category I CME.
LODGING
The AAPA has negotiated a block of rooms from January 10-17, 2010 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1749 Scott Blvd in Temple, Texas and at the Fairfield Inn, 1402 H.K. Dodgen Loop in Temple, Texas.

This room block will be held until DECEMBER 20, 2009. We cannot guarantee the group rate after this date.
Airport Shuttle Information
Transportation between the Killen-Fort Hood Regional Airport, Waco Regional Airport, or Austin airport is available through ANS SHUTTLE service. You must call 254-690-6725 for a reservation. Please tell them you are part of the American Academy of Physician Assistants group going to Scott and White. They will have a list of registrants’ names. All transportation arrangements and fees are made directly with ANS.
Evening in Austin Thursday, January 14, 2009 (optional- $30pp for round trip transportation. RSVP by December 1, 2009)
New this year! Registrants will have the opportunity to spend an evening in Austin, Texas along the famous 6th street venue! 6th Street is a historic street and entertainment district in Austin, Texas. East 6th Street is the center of the city's live music scene. 6th street was formerly named Pecan Street; east-west streets in Austin were named after trees — north-south streets were and still are named after Texas rivers. The area around nearby 4th Street and 6th Street and is the heart of the Austin entertainment district . Many bars, clubs, music venues, and shopping destinations are located on E. 6th Street between Congress Avenue and Interstate 35 and many offer live music at one time or another during the week.
Bus will leave the Hilton Garden Inn at 5:45pm for Austin and leave Austin at 11:30pm.
