Host City Prevention Campaign
"Care
to Share 2008" - Students make a difference.
Host
City Prevention Campaign (HCPC)
The
theme for the year is literacy. Funds will be raised for organizations
around the country who work to promote literacy. A portion of the funds
will go to an organization in the host city of AAPA's Annual Conference:
Children's Shelter in San Antonio, Texas. The shelter has provided services
to San Antonio and Bexar County since 1901. Its services include
emergency shelter care, foster care, adoption, residential treatment
care, child abuse prevention, and teen pregnancy programs. The
shelter works with PAs in the San Antonio area and had done an art therapy
project with PA students enrolled in the University of Texas Health
Science Center at San Antonio.
In
addition to funding the program in San Antonio, money will also go to
other similar organizations around the country in the form of grants
from the PA Foundation. The potential impact that PA students from across
the nation can have on our organization, and more importantly, on society,
is tremendous! We know that you will want to join us in this important
project.
Students
are also being recognized for the enormous impact that SAAAPA and the
student societies have on the campaign, this year 10% (but not less
than $2,000) of the funds raised by students for the HCPC will go towards
a scholarship for a PA student. The scholarship will be administered
by the PA Foundation as part of their annual PAF Scholarship program.
The more money students raise, the bigger the scholarship! Last year
students raised over $24,000 for the HCPC.
