PA Margaret Allen is always looking for the "hidden homeless," people who are packed into garages, sleeping on sofas, or shift workers alternating use of one bed."People in these situations are very fragile and often aren't aware of the services that are available to them," she says.
Allen and other workers at Ravenswood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto, Calif., set up a mobile clinic every Thursday to provide medical services to the homeless and others with barriers to accessing health care.The recipient of AAPA's 2009 Physician Assistant Service to the Underserved Award, she spoke to Palo Alto Weekly about her work.
