Pearls -- applying and getting into PA school

.

•  Make sure you are financially secure. You cannot work during school.

•  Shadow a PA for 2 weeks

•  Ask your favorite professors, PA's, and physicians for references.  If she or he isn't jumping up and down in anticipation of writing your reference, don't use him or her.

•  Be unique in your statement about why you want to be a PA.  Think how you can differentiate yourself from your  competition.

•  Learn about the programs and apply to those that seem to be a good fit for you as a person.

•  Visit the PA program you are interested in prior to applying so you are informed about the program and aware of the expectations of the program.  This information will be invaluable during your interview.

•  Get some type of healthcare experience before you show up; every bit of experience helps.

•  Do as much shadowing before PA school as time allows- it will help you in the long run.

•  Take advantage of the ability to apply to numerous PA schools though the CASPA application process.

•  Be true to yourself and what your real goals are and then do everything you can to pursue those goals.
