Rotation
Talk to your patients like they are real people because they are; see
a person, not a disease.
"If you sit on the fence you will get hemorrhoids." Quote
from an Attending Neurologist while on rotation in London England in
regards to making a decision about something one way or the other, whether
it's right or wrong. If you are wrong then at least you won't make that
mistake again.
Always ask for help...always.
Always say what you mean, and mean what you say
Always be honest with your patients
Always carry trauma scissors: when all else fails and you have no idea
what is going on, you can always help by cutting off someone's clothing.
You know more than you think you know, and you're not expected to know
everything. That's why you're there.
A PDA is a must. This is much more convenient to download
all of the resources you will need while on rotations instead of filling
the pockets of your white coat with numerous books and papers
For rotations it is beneficial to share books, resources, and advice
with your classmates. It can be helpful to develop a Web Page
or Message Board to share advice with classmates regarding specific
rotations.
Don't think it will be easy but always remember it will be worth it!
Don't get discouraged if you don't understand one discipline as well
as another- everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and that's why
medicine is a "team" profession.
