Pearls -- Current PA student experience

Balancing life while in school

•  Recruit family and friends for support

•  Manage your time, learn how to set priorities.

•  Take time out for yourself- "You wont be a good PA if you are the one in the hospital"

•  Make sure you have friends who are NOT PA students!  It is important to be able to hang out with people and not always talk medicine.  Sometimes you just need to get away from it for awhile.

•  Although PA school is very demanding, still make time for family and friends.

Preventing stress/maintaining sanity

•  Have an exercise program in place and stick to it (you will need the release and the health benefits.

•  Take time to have some fun

•  Get plenty of sleep

•  Take breaks.  Before starting PA school go on a nice vacation for a couple weeks.  During PA school make sure to stay involved in activities outside of classroom work, such as volunteering, leadership opportunities, traveling, sports, religious activities, etc.

•  Study, study, study, but make sure to have some fun as well. This year is going to be one of the most intense years of your life, and you won't ever forget it, so make sure you can look back with some great memories.

•  Always take time for yourself, especially when things get overwhelming
