Katie
Callaway - President
Katie
is a native of southern Louisiana. She received her bachelor’s
degree in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University
– Geaux Tigers! While in school, she worked in the
emergency department at Our Lady of the Lake Regional
Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Katie most recently
worked as a recruiter in Boston, but returned to the south
to pursue her medical education. Currently, Katie is a
first year PA student in Savannah, Georgia, where she
serves as South University’s AOR representative
and third consecutive SAAAPA President. In Savannah, you
will find Katie at the beach or practicing her golf swing.

Brandon
Wolfenden - Vice President
At the ripe
young age of seventeen, Brandon entered the United States Army
where he gained his first experience in the health care world
as a combat medic. During his time in service, he was exposed
to the highest quality of professional health care providers this
nation has to offer. He attributes his desire to become a PA to
those PA’s who served as mentors to him. Recently, Brandon
has served his classmates as the AOR representative for his PA
program and serves his community through organizing events and
participating as an officer in Liverpool Syracuse Masonic Lodge
#501. He looks forward to working with the Student Academy and
offers himself as the mentor to up and coming PAs in the same
manner in which he was mentored…professionally and through
encouragement.

Mike
Simmons, PA-C - Immediate Past President
Mike
is a Physician Assistant and practices in occupational medicine
and urgent care in Savannah, Georgia. He recently graduated with
highest honors from South University’s Physician Assistant
Program. Before PA school, Mike attended the University of Georgia,
in Athens, GA, where he graduated with honors in May 2005 with
a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science. He also worked
as an Exercise Specialist with St. Mary's Health Care System,
Inc. in Athens, Georgia before beginning PA school in January
2006. Mike’s involvement with the student academy has included
serving as South University’s AOR representative in 2006,
SAAAPA Southeast Regional Chair (2006-2007), SAAAPA President
(2007-2008), and currently SAAAPA Immediate Past President (2008-2009).
Mike is married to his wonderful and supportive wife Katy; they
have two house cats, and enjoy mountain biking, traveling, and
Georgia Bulldog Football!

Joy
Vonk- Director of Internal Affairs
Joy
was raised in Raleigh, NC, where she attended NC State University
in Raleigh, NC, receiving a bachelor's in Biological Sciences
and Animal Science, in addition to a Spanish minor. During college,
she was a Biology department researcher and biochemistry lab instructor
at NCSU. Joy has volunteered within Hispanic church music ministries
and at several pediatric clinics. She came to Houston in June
2007 and will graduate from Baylor College of Medicine Physician
Assistants program in December 2009. At Baylor, Joy serves as
the Robert Luchi Society class President. She loves music, playing
her violin, exercising, horseback riding, and spending time with
family and friends.

Paul Snow - Director of External Affairs, Senior
Paul
is currently a second year student at Eastern Virginia Medical
School. Paul received his Bachelor’s degree in Clinical
Health Sciences from George Washington University in May of 2006.
Paul is a 22 year veteran of the United States Navy and lives
with his wife and 5 children in Virginia Beach, VA. After graduation,
Paul intends on beginning a career in rural medicine. Paul enjoys
running, camping, adventure racing, tennis, golf and keeping his
1973 VW alive.

Betsy Severance
- Director of External Affairs, Junior
Betsy
Severance is a second year PA student at the University of Oklahoma
in Oklahoma City. After graduating from Texas A&M University
with a BS in Biomedical Science, Betsy attended nursing school
in San Antonio, TX, where she graduated with honors. She spent
the next seven years working full time as a Registered Nurse in
Oklahoma City, and still works part time for a group of cardiovascular
surgeons. Betsy served as her school’s SAAAPA AOR representative
in 2007-2008 and is currently the 2008-2009 SAAAPA Director of
External Affairs, Junior. After graduation, Betsy plans to practice
in cardiovascular surgery.

Amy
McKee - Chief Delegate
Amy
McKee is a PA student at Stony Brook University (SUNY). She has
a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University
and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Southwestern University
in Georgetown, Texas. Amy grew up in Denton, Texas. Her interest
in health care stems from experience working with public health
in Nicaragua. AMy worked for eight years at the US Department
of State as a Presidential Management Fellow. Her responsibilities
included monitoring and promoting human rights and humanitarian
policy for the Latin America and Middle East, as well as policy
formulation and representation of US positions at the United Nations.
She speaks Spanish and some Portuguese and hopes to integrate
her interest in international affairs with health care through
participation in humanitarian medical missions and work with migrant
communities in the US. Amy plans to work in internal medicine
in Austin, Texas upon completion of her Master of Science in PA
Studies in June 2009.

Sabahat
Ali - Director of Diversity
Sabahat
grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She received her undergraduate
degree in Biomedical Sciences from Marquette University. She is
currently finishing her third year as a PA student. Before becoming
Director of Diversity for the Student Academy, she served as Vice
President of the Marquette student society. She is interested
in working in surgery or endocrinology after graduation.

Emily
Nunley - Special Projects Coordinator
Emily
was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended Texas A&M
University in College Station, Texas where she received a bachelor’s
degree in Biomedical Science. During college, she built houses
over spring break with Aggies in Mission, was a mentor to underprivileged
children with Youth Impact, and was the vice president of a service
club. She also did mission work in a rural hospital in Honduras
and volunteered at the emergency room in College Station. She
moved to Houston shortly after graduating to start PA school at
Baylor College of Medicine in June 2007. She will graduate from
Baylor in December 2009. She loves reading, playing sports, flavored
iced tea, baking, eating chocolate, and spending time with her
family and friends.
